The Cursillo movement was introduced in the Philippines in the late 1960s. Inspired by this movement, a group of women was formed by a certain Sister Puring Dionisio. They called themselves “The Ladies of the Golden Cross.” Fr. Santos Mendoza and Fr. Omer Basil were their spiritual directors.
In 1971, Fr. Pascual H. Adorable, SJ took over as the group’s new spiritual director. On November 18, 1972, on a Monday, Fr. Ado, as we fondly called him, held a prayer meeting with a group of 10 couples with songs of praise and thanksgiving, prayers and listening to the Word of God. It was through these regular Monday prayer meetings that the Lord inspired them to rename their group to “Buklod Ng Pag-ibig.” November 18 has since then been celebrated as their founding anniversary.

In 1973, while attending an international charismatic convention in Canada, Fr. Ado received the gift of healing and anointing through the Holy Spirit. Sometime during this year, Fr. Adorable left for the United States. Fr. Benito Afuang took over temporarily during his absence. He prophesied during the celebration of the Eucharist: “I will send you My people and they will be healed.”

This prophecy would mark the inception of Buklod ng Pag-ibig (BNP) as a Healing Community. Monday prayer meetings were held at St. Mary’s College, Quezon City. Then in 1984, the first BNP Healing Center was established in Bohol Avenue, Quezon City. In 1985, it was relocated to Blue Ridge, Quezon City and eventually transferred in 1997 to Balete Drive Extension, E. Rodriquez Avenue, Quezon City. Unfortunately, Fr. Ado died on June 24,1997. He was succeeded by Fr. Dominador G. Guzman, SSP.

In 1984 and the years that lay ahead, Fr. Ado laid down the community’s spiritual foundation to strengthen their healing charism. It was a vibrant, lively community until those fateful years of Covid, when, in 2020, except for the healing Masses that were celebrated at the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish (OLOSP), these activities came to a standstill. Faced with these realities, the community also had to contend with the death of their dear Executive Elder, Founder and longtime FTCC President, Bro. Manuel D. Recto. He is survived by his wife, Sister Lulu Recto, who continues his legacy up to this day.

Though fewer in number, we thank the Lord for the preservation of BNP during the pandemic period to what it is today as we continue our resolve to fulfill our mission in spreading the healing love of Christ through our regular Saturday Assemblies at Christ the King Church and our healing apostolate at OLOSP. We look forward to the completion of our new healing center at 50H Francisco Street, Roosevelt Avenue, Quezon City.
