Family Renewal Movement Community

The Family Renewal Movement (FRM) was founded on October 22, 1990 by a group of parishioners from Mary, Mother of the Church Parish (MMCP) in BF Resort Village, Las Piñas City. These founding members, who had experienced the transformative power of the Marriage Encounter Weekend from various communities, aimed to form an independent prayer community that fully supported MMCP. The initial mission of FRM was “to help evangelize MMCP through families.”
The formation of the prayer community coincided with the end of Fr. Miguelito Lagrimas’ term as parish priest. Recognizing the need for sustained spiritual growth, the group adopted the Discipleship Formation Program of the Bukas Loob sa Diyos (BLD) Covenant Community.

Initially, FRM’s activities were limited to Saturday prayer meetings held at the parish church. These meetings were soon complemented by Marriage Encounter (ME), Singles, Youth, Solo Parents, and Family Encounter Weekends. New members were guided to BLD for growth seminars and teachings, including the Life in the Spirit Seminars.
In 1994, after much prayer, FRM welcomed Fr. Lino Nicasio, SVD, as their spiritual director. By this time, FRM’s membership had grown to include non-MMCP parishioners. FRM’s prayer meetings and activities relocated to Elizabeth Seton School, where they remained for over a decade.

A significant milestone was achieved in 1995 when FRM was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as FRM Foundation, Inc. In 1998, FRM became a member of the Federation of Transparochial Charismatic Communities of the Ecclesiastical Province of Manila.

This membership also affiliated FRM with the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas and was placed under the Episcopal Commission on Lay Apostolate of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

During a 1999 FRM Disciples Assembly, the community embraced a vision to extend its evangelization efforts to Parañaque, Muntinlupa, and Cavite. In 2003, FRM partnered with the Society of the Divine Word Mission Area in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

By 2009, four FRM Nazareno members had completed the formation program. Inspired by the community’s mission, FRM disciples living abroad established prayer groups in Metro Washington DC, New Zealand (Auckland), and Dubai in 2007.

In 2010, FRM celebrated its 20th anniversary with the blessing of the FRM Covenant House, which serves as the venue for offices, meetings, teachings, counseling, prayer meetings, and various community activities. Over the years, FRM has faced numerous challenges, including a significant decline in active members due to the pandemic. Despite these struggles, FRM members have demonstrated resilience and remained committed to their mission.

Today, FRM has over 60 members who have completed the three-year Discipleship Formation Program, each signing a covenant with the Lord.
In 2023, FRM celebrated its 33rd anniversary with a face-to-face gathering after three years of pandemic-related restrictions. With God’s grace and blessings, FRM continues to strive towards its mission and vision, looking forward to a future filled with faith and community spirit.
