The Risen Christ Catholic Community

The Risen Christ Catholic Community (RCCC) originated from the Banner of Love Prayer Community, composed mostly of Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) employees. Bro. Antonio “Tony” O. Vasquez, a former Elder of Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon Community and LBP Vice President, directed a “Day of Discernment” retreat on April 25, 1987, at St. Anne’s House of Prayer in Sta. Ana, Manila. This retreat marked the establishment of a community, answering a five-year-long petition for its formation. Two weeks later, the community was named Risen Christ Catholic Community, with its anniversary celebrated every Saturday after Easter. Bro. Tony became the first Head Coordinator and Presiding Elder, with Rev. Fr. Pierrangelo Quaranta, SDB as the first Spiritual Director.

In 1988, RCCC moved from the LBP Head Office in Intramuros, Manila to Telecoms Plaza Buendia, Makati, in front of LBP, where they held Christian Life Programs, weekly Prayer Assemblies, and other activities until 2004. In 2005, RCCC transferred to St. Michael Chaplaincy at Fort Bonifacio.

It was on April 1, 1989 when RCCC became a founding member of the Federation of Transparochial Communities in the Archdiocese of Manila. The Community’s Statutes were approved by His Eminence Jaime L. Cardinal Sin on April 19, 1991, recognizing RCCC as a private association of Christ’s faithful in the Archdiocese of Manila.

Following Fr. Quaranta’s death in 1992, Fr. Joseph Javillo, SSP became the new Spiritual Director. In 2006, Fr. Apolinar Castor, Jr., SSP succeeded him. Upon Fr. Javillo’s return from his assignment in the USA, RCCC now has two Spiritual Directors: Fr. Javillo and Fr. Castor.
The leadership of RCCC has seen several changes over the years: Bro. Romulo Salud became the Presiding Elder in 1992, followed by Bro. Tony Vasquez again in 1995; Bro. Pepito Ramos in 1998; Bro. Diego Obnial in 2004; Bro. Edmundo Yabyabin in 2014; and Bro. Alfredo Carbonell, Jr. from 2019 to the present.

RCCC members are classified as Public Permanent Covenanted and Public Temporary Covenanted (Underway). Significant milestones in RCCC’s history include participation in the 3rd Asian Leaders Conference of Christ the King Association in 1999 and the 15th Anniversary Worship Concert in 2002, which showcased Bro. Jun Cajigal’s original composition “Building the New Jerusalem,” the RCCC theme song, with Fr. Domingo “Dojie” Asuncion as the guest singing priest.

Currently, RCCC has mission areas across various locations in Metro Manila: North Area (St. Pius X Chapel, V. Luna, and Pinyahan, Quezon City), Central Area (Santisima Trinidad Parish Church, Manila and Makati), East Area (Dona Andrea Subdivision, Pasig City and Antipolo), North East Area (Holy Family Chapel, Marikina), South Area (Agro-Homes Subdivision, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, and Las Pinas), and St. Michael Area (St. Michael the Archangel Parish, BGC Taguig and Pateros). RCCC has resumed all prayer assemblies, formations, and activities (Works of Mercy Ministry, Liturgical celebrations, etc.) both face-to-face and via livestream through Zoom. This approach ensures that the community remains connected and active in their mission, embracing both traditional and modern means of engagement.
